|William R. Steinhaus, Dutchess County Executive |
Dutchess County Executive William R. Steinhaus today announced the schedule for four public informational meetings to be held for the Dutchess Rail Trail in the month of February. These meetings will officially kick-off the creation of the Dutchess Rail Trail, an 11.8 mile multi-use linear park running through the middle of the County. The trail will be constructed on a former railbed which extends from Morgan Lake in Poughkeepsie, through LaGrange and Wappinger to the Hamlet of Hopewell Junction using the same corridor where we are currently building the Central Dutchess Water pipeline.
“These meetings are intended to provide the public with information about the Dutchess Rail Trail project, but more importantly, we want to hear from you. What ideas do local residents and rail trail enthusiasts have to offer for this premier trail to be used by you, your family and your neighbors,” stated the County Executive, “Together, we can make the Dutchess Rail Trail, not only a world class facility, but an integral part of our Dutchess County communities. ‘We look forward to seeing you at one or all of the informational meetings,” continued Steinhaus, “Your participation would be greatly appreciated.”
Listed below are the dates, times and locations for informational meetings being held in the four towns that will contain the trail. Our engineering consultants will be facilitating the meetings to gather community input which will help in general design as well as in finalizing the types and locations of amenities along the trail, such as rest areas, flower gardens, play areas and exercise stations. We are also interested in discussing trail access points, parking areas and other details.
