Steinhaus Appoints William Sanchez As Youth Bureau Director

Poughkeepsie. . . Dutchess County Executive William R. Steinhaus announced today his appointment of William Sanchez as Executive Director of the Dutchess County Youth Bureau.   Mr. Sanchez, 43, and his wife Erin reside in Rhinebeck.  He is the father of one adult daughter and the grandfather of three.

“Mr. Sanchez has a strong and extensive background working with youth.  His experience is both professional as a Behavior Management and Crisis Specialist counseling young people in the schools and volunteer as the supervisor of community recreational programs for the past 23 years.  Especially impressive is his passion and enthusiasm for helping youth,” said County Executive Steinhaus.  “We believe we have found an individual to lead this vital county department who will serve as a powerful role model to the young people in our community.”

“I want to thank County Executive Bill Steinhaus for entrusting me with the opportunity to work on behalf of the young people of Dutchess County,” said Mr. Sanchez.  “It is with great pride and commitment I accept this responsibility.”

He continued, “I plan to continue to develop and sustain the many collaborative relationships the Dutchess County Youth Bureau, and its devoted staff, is known for throughout the county.   Working together we can help address the many challenges our children face in today’s society, and also provide them the resources to overcome those challenges.”

Mr. Sanchez’ imprint on northern Dutchess County has been considerable.  Since 1996, Mr. Sanchez has served as the Village Justice in Rhinebeck Justice Court and he has served as Rhinebeck Town Justice since 2000.  Earlier in his career, Sanchez worked at Astor Home for Children and also as a police officer in the Village of Rhinebeck.

Steinhaus concluded, “Judge Sanchez will be a great advocate for youth and will become our new champion for developmental youth assets. He understands the power and value of caring adults, supportive community, and successful education.”

Mr. Sanchez will fill the position vacated by the former Executive Director, Betsy Brockway, in 2005.  Mrs. Brockway has continued her managerial oversight of the youth bureau as part of the promotional responsibilities she assumed last year when County Executive Steinhaus appointed her Director of the Dutchess County Health and Human Services Cabinet.

Mr. Sanchez will begin his appointment as Acting Director on March 27.  His confirmation will be considered by the County Legislature at its April meeting.
