Poughkeepsie… Dutchess County Executive William R. Steinhaus and County Clerk Colette Lafuente have announced the extension of the contract with the Village of Pawling to continue to lease space in village hall for a satellite office of the County run Department of Motor Vehicles.
According to County Executive Steinhaus, “The County has leased space from the Village of Pawling since 1984 when as the then County Clerk I was able to open the first ever DMV satellite to serve Eastern Dutchess and Harlem Valley residents. Our presence in this easternmost part of the county, provides residents and the business community with a more convenient access to these necessary services.”
The space is in the Village Building in the Village of Pawling. The lease has been extended for another year through August of 2007. The County pays the village $750 per month for the use of the space.
County Clerk Colette Lafuente stated, “Although the Pawling DMV office is open on Tuesdays and Thursdays, we have still averaged almost 1400 transactions per month in 2006. These transactions have also averaged over $7,000 per month in revenue to the County. With the rising price of gasoline, this satellite location is especially valuable to local residents.”
Rob Liffland, Village of Pawling Mayor added, “I am thankful to Mr. Steinhaus and County Clerk Lafuente for continuing to lease space for the DMV office. It is a big convenience for people in the east end of the County and helps to boost our local economy since it is also a good draw for Village businesses.”
