Steinhaus Orders County Facility Flags Set at Half Mast to Honor Undersheriff

Poughkeepsie… County Executive William R. Steinhaus has directed that all Dutchess County Government facility flags shall be set at half mast to honor Undersheriff James J. (JJ) Thompson, who passed away early Sunday morning.

“We are all saddened by the loss of our friend and co-worker.   Our prayers and condolences are with JJ’s family,” stated County Executive Steinhaus.

JJ Thompson served the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office for 34 years.    He became Undersheriff in 2000.   Prior to becoming Undersheriff, he had been Detective Lieutenant since 1982.

Said Sheriff Butch Anderson, “Law enforcement lost a true friend.”
Flags will remain at half mast until his funeral service has concluded.   Funeral plans are private and have not been finalized.
