Steinhaus Represents New York State at NACo Conference in Washington, D.C.

Poughkeepsie... Dutchess County Executive William R. Steinhaus is participating in the National Association of Counties (NACo) Legislative Conference being held in Washington, D.C. now until Wednesday, March 7, 2007.

NACo members will discuss legislative issues and programs important to counties and communities, meet with members of Congress, attend professional development and educational workshops, and hear from nationally prominent political leaders and commentators.

County Executive Steinhaus is participating in discussions on topics such as the Home Investment Partnership Program, Community Development and Building Grants as well as Homeland Security Grants.  “I always find these conferences to be extremely valuable experiences.  County leaders from across the country share their insights and best practices.  I  look forward to returning with new ideas that can help Dutchess County Government continue our commitment to excellence and better serve our residents,” said the County Executive.

The National Association of Counties (NACo) is a national organization that represents county governments in the United States. NACo advances issues with a unified voice before the federal government, improves the public's understanding of county government, assists counties in finding and sharing innovative solutions through education and research, and provides value-added services to save counties and taxpayers money.

One such value-added service is the Dutchess County Prescription Drug Discount Card, available under a program sponsored by NACo.  The program offers an average savings of 20 percent off the retail price of commonly prescribed drugs. All county residents, regardless of age or income, can take advantage of the discount card, which is accepted at more than 55 pharmacies participating countywide. A national network of more than 57,000 participating retail pharmacies also will honor the NACo prescription discount drug card.   County residents have saved more than $300,000 since the program’s inception in May 2005.

Steinhaus represents the New York State Association of Counties (NYSAC) on the NACo Board of Directors.
