Steinhaus Invited to Speak at Diversity Workshop

Poughkeepsie… Dutchess County Executive William R. Steinhaus has been invited to speak to students and teachers from Roosevelt High School and John Jay High School at the National Coalition Building Institute (NCBI) Prejudice Reduction Workshop on Wednesday, April 18th at the Wallace Center at FDR Historic Site in Hyde Park.   The workshop is entitled Respecting Diversity: Building a Caring School Environmnent.  It is sponsored by the Youth Against Racism Club at Roosevelt High School.  The workshop begins at 8am and will run until 1:30pm.

The workshop will offer participants the opportunity to celebrate their similarities as well as their differences.   They will learn to recognize the misinformation they may have about other groups.   Participants will be taught to claim pride in group identity, to understand the personal impact of discrimination, and learn hands-on tools for dealing effectively with bigoted comments and behaviors.

The workshop begins at 8am and will run until 1:30pm.
