Serves as Model for New York State

Poughkeepsie… Dutchess County Executive William R. Steinhaus and Division of Aging Services Director John Beale met with Michael Burgess, Director of the New York State Division of Aging Services and other representatives on Tuesday to discuss the successful DUTCHESS NY Connects (CASA) agency.  The state has launched NY Connects initiative, using DUTCHESS NY Connects as the best practices model. The State’s goal is to establish similar programs in communities throughout New York State.

County Executive Steinhaus said, “Our DUTCHESS NY Connects provides a single point of entry for long term care, giving consumers more information and many more choices as they consider their options.   The program has also given us better control of the costs for taxpayers.” 

The meeting included a presentation designed to give state leaders background information about the formation of Dutchess County CASA in 1986 and how it was developed into a single point of entry for community based long term care services, now called DUTCHESS NY ConnectsDUTCHESS NY Connects (CASA) provides information, referral, assessment, and case management for people who need help to remain at home, or who are thinking about or require residential health care facility services or other alternative living assistance.  Clients are provided a complete, unbiased assessment of their individual needs. All information is kept confidential.  Assistance is available to arrange for the provision of home care, and long term care services. Home care services can include homemaking and/or personal care tasks.

Division of Aging Services Director John Beale stated, “I’m very pleased Dutchess County is being looked to for best practices on how to manage long term care cases.  The Dutchess County Division of Aging Services is very willing to assist the State and communities throughout the state as they launch their own single point of entry programs under the NY Connects banner.”
