Poughkeepsie … Dutchess County Executive William R. Steinhaus has announced the Town of Poughkeepsie will once again be utilizing the County’s Bowdoin Park as the host site for the Town’s summer concert series, summer day camp program and Community Day Celebration, which will take place on Friday, June 27th and Saturday, June 28th.
“We are so pleased to collaborate once again with the Town of Poughkeepsie as they begin their popular summer programs,” said County Executive Steinhaus. “Bowdoin Park is an ideal location for all of the great events they have in store for residents. The Town’s Community Day Celebration and summer concert series really add to the variety of activities that can be enjoyed at the park.”
County Executive Steinhaus has always maintained a central philosophy of collaboration and partnership. Shared services such as the Town of Poughkeepsie’s events at Bowdoin Park are a prime example of that philosophy. The Town of Poughkeepsie is able to take advantage of a recreational location large enough to meet their needs and offer a great summer program to residents. The County is able to expand the variety of great events offered at Bowdoin Park.
The Town of Poughkeepsie will host its 3rd annual “Community Day Celebration” on Friday, June 27th from 6pm to 10pm and Saturday, June 28th from 12pm to 10pm. The event will include rides, music, vendors, community information booths and special family entertainment. Friday evening will be “Hot Dog Day” with free hot dogs to the first 300 children and Saturday night will feature a concert performed by “Cloud NYne” followed by a spectacular fireworks display. The event is free to the public.
The summer concert series “Music on the River” takes place on Tuesday evenings now through August 12th at the Band Shell at Bowdoin Park. The series showcases a variety of musical styles including jazz, country, American roots, rock, big band, ethnic, and popular music styles. Starting times are 7pm during the months of June and July and 6:30pm in August. Concert goers can enjoy scenic views and the cooling breezes from the Hudson River. The concerts are free and open to the public. They are organized and funded through the Town of Poughkeepsie Parks Department. The County provides the facility and event staffing support at no cost to the town.
Town of Poughkeepsie Park Facilities and Programs Director Tom Meyering said, “The Band Shell at Bowdoin Park is a wonderful facility and we are grateful to the County for working with us to host our community concerts at Bowdoin, which is in the southern portion of our town. More than 250 people enjoyed a great night at Bowdoin Park during our first concert last week. The County and Town have had a terrific working relationship in recent years regarding recreational facilities and pursuits for residents, and this co-sponsorship is a continuation of that.”
In addition, the Town of Poughkeepsie Recreation Department will run its “Kamp Kool,” summer day camp, at Bowdoin Park. Kamp Kool is designed for children who have finished Kindergarten up to 12 years old and will run for 6 one week sessions, each with a special theme starting July 7th through August 15th. The program will feature arts and crafts, games, sports, nature, adventure, small group and weekly themed activities.
