Poughkeepsie...As the colder months of winter approach, Dutchess County Executive William R. Steinhaus has announced a new website resource to help residents become smart winter energy consumers. The Winter Heating Resource Guide offers tips and information about how families can lower their home heating bills through smart conservation and energy efficiency. The Winter Heating Resources Guide is located on the home page of the County’s website www.dutchessny.gov.
“Our Winter Heating Resources Guide has quickly become the most frequently clicked on button on our website,” said County Executive Steinhaus. “Residents want to learn more about what steps they can take to successfully weather the high cost of heating fuel this winter.”
The Winter Heating Resources Guide includes conservation and energy saving tips from the Dutchess County Department of Consumer Affairs as well as eligibility information for assistance programs such as Weather Referral and Packaging Program (WRAP) and the Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP). HEAP is a federally funded program intended to assist low-income households in meeting their energy expenses. The WRAP Program is designed to help senior citizens with energy related problems or needs by providing homeowners with a thorough inspection by a trained energy auditor, repairing problems or defects that are energy wasters and connecting homeowners to agencies that can correct health and safety issues in the home.
“I encourage homeowners to log onto https://www.dutchessny.gov/ to check out all of the money saving “Hot Tips for Cold Days.” Some of these tips are simple and easy, but can save real dollars for families over the long run,” said County Executive Steinhaus.
