Poughkeepsie…Dutchess County Executive William R. Steinhaus and Veterans Service Agency Director Nelson Eddy Rivera, USN (Ret) have announced the 3rd Annual Dutchess County Veterans Appreciation Day will be held on Saturday, November 8, 2008 at the Henry A. Wallace Center at the Roosevelt Library and Home in Hyde Park. The event will take place from 12pm until 3pm. The highlight of the event will be a Medal Presentation Ceremony beginning at 2pm.
“Our Veterans Appreciation Day event recognizes the important sacrifices made by our local veterans through their service to our country,” Said County Executive Steinhaus. “This event allows each of us to take the opportunity to say THANK YOU to our veterans and remind them of how proud we are to have them as part of our community.”
The Veterans Appreciation Day celebrates all those who have honorably served their country from the Dutchess County area. There will be over thirty representatives from various Federal, State and local agencies to provide information about services available to local veterans including health benefits for Veterans, employment assistance, home loan programs, County services and much more.
Event attendees can take advantage of complimentary admission to the FDR Presidential Library and Museum as well as a complimentary viewing of the “A Rendezvous with History” film. There will also be entertainment, refreshments and door prizes throughout the day.
Director Nelson Eddy Rivera, USN (Ret) said, “The men and women who have served and are currently serving in our military deserve our thanks and our appreciation. This event allows us to recognize them for their service and provides us an opportunity to share information about the wealth of services available to our Veterans and their families.”
