Poughkeepsie… Dutchess County Executive William R. Steinhaus has announced the Dutchess County Department of Health will once again partner with several local community organizations to conduct the 3rd Annual Great Halloween Candy Exchange Program on Saturday, November 1st from 10am to 2pm at various locations throughout the county. Children can donate a pound of Halloween trick-or-treat candy to be shipped to U.S. troops serving in Iraq and Afghanistan as well as those at local veteran’s hospitals. In exchange for their candy, children will receive an age-appropriate new book or a family fun pass to Dutchess County YMCA or All Sport Fishkill.
“This program is a great way for families to reinforce the values of sharing, literacy as well as the importance of good health,” said County Executive William R. Steinhaus. “It is a perfect opportunity to encourage physical activity, which is so important in order to prevent childhood obesity.”
The Great Halloween Candy Exchange Program is a partnership of American Wellness Care, Astor Early Childhood Programs, Children's Medical Group, Dutchess County Department of Health, Dutchess County YMCA, and Literacy Connections of Dutchess County. These partners continue to work together to reduce the incidence of childhood obesity as well as help children develop a love for reading and physical activity.
On Saturday, November 1st from 10am to 2pm, families can bring their candy to the following locations:
