Poughkeepsie… Dutchess County Executive William R. Steinhaus and County Parks Director Steve Olsen are pleased to welcome the more than 1,000 riders who will be taking part in the sixth annual 2009 Harlem Valley Rail Ride this Sunday, July 26th at the Harlem Valley Rail Trail in Millerton, rain or shine. The 10.5 mile length of the Harlem Valley Rail Trail (HVRT) from the Village of Millerton to the Wassaic Train Station is part of the Dutchess County Government Parks System.
“There is no better way to spend a weekend day than with family and friends on the Harlem Valley Rail Trail,” said County Executive Steinhaus. “Participants in the Harlem Valley Rail Ride will be able to enjoy a smooth, easy to ride surface while enjoying wonderful scenic views of Dutchess County.”
The Harlem Valley Rail Ride offers mileage choices for all skill levels from 22 to 100 miles. The shorter rides are perfect for families with children, beginning cyclists, and those who are looking for a fun ride that's not too strenuous. The 55-, 75-, and 100-mile choices require more effort. Following the Harlem Valley Rail Ride; cyclists, visitors and residents are all welcome to a country Festival to be held at Eddie Collins Memorial Field in Millerton celebrating the ride and summertime. The festival will feature food, entertainment, exhibitors and more. The town pool will also be open to all riders.
