Poughkeepsie… Dutchess County Executive William R. Steinhaus welcomed Dutchess County’s new Comptroller-elect Jim Coughlan to his meeting of the Executive department heads this morning in the County Office Building. It was an opportunity for Mr. Coughlan to become more familiar with the County Office Building before he moves into his office on the 4th floor in January 2010. The meeting also provided Mr.Coughlan the opportunity to meet each of the department heads who he will be working with for the next four years and to become more familiar with the mission of each department.
“I know that Jim is looking to hit the ground running on January 1st,” said County Executive Steinhaus. “Our administration works with each of the independently elected officials such as the Comptroller and we wanted to take this opportunity to welcome Jim Coughlan to the Dutchess County Government team and let him know we are here to help facilitate the important work he must do as Comptroller. Our department heads have a tremendous wealth of expertise in county government and with nearly 500 years of combined experience in County Government they can be valuable resources to him as he assumes his responsibilities in the Comptroller’s office.”
Comptroller-elect Coughlan spent some time during his one hour visit sharing his background and his experience. He expressed his interest in getting to know more about each of the departments and the diverse services and programs county government provides. Mr. Coughlan was eager to meet with department heads for one-on-one discussions for more in-depth conversation during the remaining weeks of the year. Some of those meetings have already been scheduled.
“I appreciate the chance to get to meet some of the department heads that I will be working soon and put a face with the names,” said Comptroller-elect Coughlan. “There is a lot to absorb about county government and how it operates. The more substance I can be involved with prior to January 1st, getting to know how various department function, will certainly help streamline the transition and allow me to get right down to business as Comptroller.”
Jim Coughlan, 42, is a resident of Rhinecliff along with his wife Sharon. He is a graduate of Providence College and Roger Williams University Law School, where he earned his law degree. He has worked for international and domestic companies for 15 years in charge of managing projects and tracking budget concerns.
