County and local municipalities now eligible for federal reimbursement for storm expenses

Poughkeepsie... Dutchess County Executive William R. Steinhaus announced today Dutchess County has been added to the Federal Disaster Declaration for the severe snowstorm that impacted Dutchess County on December 26th and 27th, 2010.     This means Dutchess County Government, as well as local municipalities, school districts and other agencies, are eligible to receive Public Assistance financial reimbursement from the federal government for a percentage of the costs incurred for the emergency protective measures taken during the 48-hour period during the snowstorm, including plowing, sanding, employee overtime and other related costs.

“Our Department of Emergency Response put together a well coordinated effort to ensure Dutchess County received the disaster declaration and enable both the county and local municipalities to receive reimbursement for this very costly storm,” said County Executive Steinhaus.

Preliminary damage estimates compiled by the Dutchess County Department of Emergency Response and submitted to the New York State Office of Emergency Management in Albany show the emergency protective measures costs estimates for Dutchess County government, local municipalities, and other agencies including school and fire districts totaled nearly $1.2 million.
