County Facility Flags Set at Half-Staff to Honor Neighboring Ulster County Resident

Poughkeepsie…  County Executive William R. Steinhaus has directed all Dutchess County Government facility flags shall be set at half-staff to honor Private First Class Douglas L. Cordo, of the United States Army, who was killed in action while serving in Zabul, Afghanistan.    Cordo, 20, was a resident of Kingston in Ulster County.

“On behalf of the residents of Dutchess County, I extend our prayers and condolences to the family of Pvt. 1st Class Cordo,” stated County Executive Steinhaus.

While county facility flags are normally only lowered to honor Dutchess County residents who have been killed in the line of duty, County Executive Steinhaus extended the honor to a neighboring fallen hero.   “Ulster and Dutchess counties are connected in so many ways…. employment, commerce, tourism and so much more, but also so many families of Dutchess and Ulster are connected.  We share their sorrow in the loss of Pvt. 1st Class Cordo.”

Flags will remain at half-staff until his interment.
