Maple Sugaring Open House this Saturday at Bowdoin Park

Poughkeepsie… Dutchess County Executive Marcus J. Molinaro invites residents of all ages to learn more about maple sugaring at the County’s Bowdoin Park this Saturday, March 16th  from 12pm to 4pm. The event is FREE and open to the public.

Dutchess County park naturalist David Beck will be teaching the age old art of maple sugaring.  Participants will explore both modern and Native American methods to create maple syrup.  The event will be both indoors and outside and will include demonstrations of tapping a sugar maple tree, boiling sap with hot rocks and by evaporator, and starting fire with friction.   Demonstrations will be held on a rotating schedule.

“The maple sugaring program is always a popular event here at Bowdoin and people look forward to it every year,” said Dutchess County Parks Director Steven Olsen.  “It is one of the many terrific programs we have to offer including summer camp programs and custom programs for schools and scouting groups.”

To learn more about all of the programs available at Bowdoin Park as well as other Dutchess County Parks, visit or call the Dutchess County Parks Division at (845) 298-4600.   Bowdoin Park is located at 85 Sheafe Road in the Town of Poughkeepsie.
