Household Hazardous Materials Disposal and Electronics Recycling Event to be held in Pawling on May 4th

Poughkeepsie… Dutchess County Resource Recovery Agency’s next Household Hazardous Materials Disposal and Electronics Recycling Day is Saturday, May 4th at the Pawling Fire Department, South Street, Pawling, NY. from 7:30am to 9:30am.  Pre-registration is required and there is a $5 fee.  Call the Dutchess County Resource Recovery Agency at (845) 463-6020 or visit to pre-register and schedule an appointment.

Dutchess County Deputy Commissioner of Solid Waste Management Lindsay Carille said, “Many of us have products that contain hazardous materials under our sinks, in our medicine cabinets and in our garages.  This is a good time to safely dispose of unused pesticides, old mercury-containing thermometers, unwanted computers and all the other products that contain toxic materials.”

Last year more than 60 tons of electronics, 30,000 gallons of hazardous chemicals and 800 fluorescent bulbs were collected from County residents.  “These events held once a month, April through November, at various locations within the County gives all of our residents an opportunity to rid their homes of poisonous and corrosive products. All of the harmful chemicals in these items, which could potentially pollute our communities, can be safely disposed of at these events.” said DCRRA Executive Director William Calogero.

There will be six more collection events in 2013 after Saturday, May 4th at a variety of locations throughout the county. The collection is partially funded by the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation.
