Household Hazardous Materials Disposal and Electronics Recycling Event on Saturday, September 7th at the Cornell Cooperative Extension in Millbrook

Poughkeepsie… The next scheduled Household Hazardous Materials Disposal, Electronics Recycling and Medications Disposal Day is Saturday, September 7th at the Cornell Cooperative Extension in Millbrook, NY from 7:30am to 9:30am. Pre-registration is required and there is a $5 fee. Call the Dutchess County Resource Recovery Agency at (845) 463-6020 or visit http://www.dcrra.org/ to pre-register and schedule an appointment.

Many products that are used in the home can cause problems for families, pets, and the environment if not properly disposed of. Bringing unwanted hazardous materials to a collection event helps prevent accidental exposure to harmful chemicals. To make the collection of these hazardous materials safe for all, materials should be brought to the collection event in their original containers if possible. If they are not in their original containers, the materials should be clearly labeled. In addition, hazardous materials should not be mixed together in the same container as this may cause toxic fumes, fires, or explosions. For the safety of all, proper precautions should be taken while these products are in use and while they are in storage. When they are no longer wanted or needed, bringing the materials to a Household Hazardous Waste Collection event is the safest way to dispose of hazardous chemicals and electronics.

If you are planning for a fall clean-up, there will be two more collection events in 2013. The collections are partially funded by the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation.

Saturday, October 5th - Town of Rhinebeck Highway Department
