County Executive Molinaro and Dutchess County employees participate in the Third Annual Earth Day Walk and Clean-up

Poughkeepsie…To commemorate Earth Day today, County Executive Marc Molinaro joined fellow county employees for Dutchess County’s Third Annual Earth Day Walk and Clean-up. Participants gathered outside the County Office Building on Market Street in Poughkeepsie at noon to kick off the lunchtime walk. The clean-up effort included collecting liter and recyclables in the surrounding neighborhood of the County Office Building’s Market Street Campus. Deputy Commissioner of the Division of Solid Waste Management Lindsay Carille was on hand to help educate participants about which items could be recycled along the way.

Employees at the County offices at 27 High Street in Poughkeepsie also participated in a lunchtime clean-up effort alongside volunteers from Hudson River Housing.

In anticipation of Earth Day, Dutchess County earlier this week submitted its Biennial Compliance Report to the Department of Environmental Conservation regarding the Rethinking Waste Plan. The report included the encouraging news that Dutchess County has once again bested recycling projections for 2014. In total, the recycling rate has increased from 22.9% in 2010 to 36.4% in 2014, indicating that Dutchess County is well on its way to achieving the goal of a 60% recycling rate by 2022, as outlined in the Rethinking Waste Plan.
