Transportation Council Seeks Public Input for Long-range Transportation Plan

Poughkeepsie…The Dutchess County Transportation Council (PDCTC) has issued a public survey in support of its new long-range Metropolitan Transportation Plan: Moving Dutchess 2. The 25-year plan, which builds upon 2011’s Moving Dutchess, seeks to identify strategies and recommendations to preserve the existing transportation system and meet future travel demands in Dutchess County. The PDCTC is requesting the public’s input in identifying and prioritizing the county’s transportation needs.

In 2011, the PDCTC issued a survey in support of Moving Dutchess, which fielded more than 450 participants. The survey found that maintaining major roads and improving public transportation were top priorities. Other priorities included improving transportation services for seniors and disabled persons, improving sidewalks, and improving major roads. These results supported subsequent work on road safety assessments, local pedestrian plans, and a transit plan.

To participate in the survey, go to: http://www.surveymonkey.com/MovingDutchess2. The survey will be available until September 8, 2015. Please note that all survey responses are kept anonymous.

More information about the PDCTC and Moving Dutchess 2 is available at http://www.dutchessny.gov/pdctc.htm.

About the PDCTC: Established in 1982, the PDCTC serves as the designated Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) for Dutchess County. Federal regulations require that Urbanized Areas (U.S. Census defined metropolitan areas with over 50,000 people) be represented by a MPO, which is responsible for ensuring that Federal highway and transit funds are committed through a locally driven, comprehensive planning process. The PDCTC includes representatives from local municipalities, the New York State Department of Transportation, and the Metropolitan Transportation Authority.
