Dutchess County Earns Three “Best of Hudson Valley” Honors

Poughkeepsie… Readers of Hudson Valley Magazine have thrice honored Dutchess County in the 2015 “Best of the Hudson Valley” survey: Bowdoin Park has been selected as the area’s favorite park; the William R. Steinhaus Dutchess Rail Trail has been named the best bike/rail trail; and readers selected County Executive Marc Molinaro as the area’s top politician.

The annual “Best of Hudson Valley” issue features the area’s best choices for dining, shopping, recreation and more. Dutchess County’s three 2015 honorees topped the same rankings last year.

“Dutchess County Parks rank among the many gems that make our county a great place to live and visit, and we are honored to have Bowdoin Park and the WRS Dutchess Rail Trail again honored as the Hudson Valley’s very best,” said County Executive Molinaro. “Fall is a particularly beautiful time to enjoy our county’s exceptional parks, savoring everything the season offers Dutchess County residents.”

Bowdoin Park and the WRS Dutchess Rail Trail are two of six great parks in Dutchess County’s Parks System. Other Dutchess County parks include Wilcox Park, the Harlem Valley Rail Trail, Dutchess Stadium and Quiet Cove Riverfront Park.

A 301-acre park located on Sheafe Road in the southern part of the Town of Poughkeepsie, Bowdoin Park offers visitors numerous amenities for every season – everything from educational and athletic venues, to picnicking and nature opportunities – with spectacular views of the Hudson River. Bowdoin Park has won this distinction nine straight years.

The WRS Dutchess Rail Trail (WRS DRT) is a 13-mile, multi-use linear county “park” that begins at the Hopewell Depot in East Fishkill and runs through the middle of the County along the former Maybrook Rail corridor through the towns of Wappinger, LaGrange and Poughkeepsie until it connects with the Walkway Over the Hudson in the City of Poughkeepsie. This is the third time the WRS DRT has been selected as Best Bike/Rail Trail.

Voted among the “Best of Hudson Valley” for a third consecutive year, County Executive Molinaro was first elected to public office at the age of 18 in 1994, serving on Village of Tivoli Board of Trustees.  In 1995, he became the youngest mayor in the United States. During his 22 years of public service, he has served as Dutchess County Legislator and New York State Assemblyman. In 2011, he was elected as the seventh and youngest Dutchess County Executive. As Dutchess County Executive, he has been committed to core leadership principles of Focus, Inclusion, Logic and Fairness to best meet the needs of county residents. Many of his initiatives have focused on making county government more accessible and open to engage residents in a collective dialogue, whether it is at meetings, public forums, community events, interviews or social media.

The “Best of Hudson Valley” 2015 party, which showcases this year’s winners, will be held on Thursday, October 15th at the Poughkeepsie Grand Hotel starting at 5:30 p.m. Abilities First, which strives to enrich the lives of children and adults in the community, is the charity beneficiary of this year’s “Best of the Hudson Valley” party.
