Brand New Update for City of Beacon Website

In partnership with Dutchess County Office of Central and Information Services, the City of Beacon has launched its newly updated website,, featuring a brand new look and host of mobile-friendly features.    The website was originally launched two years ago and is a product of a Shared Services initiative between the City of Beacon and OCIS.   The updated website provides site visitors with important information more efficiently with fewer clicks and improved organization.

“Improving services for our shared residents is a key aspect of the shared service partnerships we have entered into with local municipalities.   The new delivers on that goal with an interactive, engaging website that puts key information about the City of Beacon at people’s fingertips,” said  Dutchess County Executive Marc Molinaro.

The website’s new design was developed based on input from City of Beacon Mayor Randy Casale, city employees, as well as residents.     The new site is mobile friendly, which means the website’s content will scale to fit whatever device is being used; desktop, laptop, tablet or phone – also known as a “responsive” website. This provides convenient access to vital information for a growing mobile audience while improving the experience for all visitors.

City of Beacon Mayor Casale remarked, “The new site is the result of a tremendous collaboration between Dutchess County OCIS and City of Beacon staff working toward the goal of bringing City government information and services closer to our residents and businesses.  The website service experience should begin with accessibility and ease of use and end with the user finding exactly what they were looking for quickly and efficiently.   Along with modernizing the back-end infrastructure of the site, we’ve updated the visual design, navigation and functionality.  Now, the site will fit whatever device is being used.  I hope residents and visitors will be pleased with this upgrade and we welcome everyone’s comments.”

Enhanced features of the website include:

  • Updated News Section – latest news and events happening in Beacon highlighted right on the homepage.
  • Meet Your City Government – quick links with information and contacts for City of Beacon officials
  • Videos - convenient access to an expanded offering of Council and Board meeting as well as event videos.
  • Photo Gallery -  Recognizing the inherent beauty of Beacon; a photo gallery feature has been added featuring the City past and present from local photographers including long-time Beacon resident Ed Mendoza
  • InfoAccess – a Geographic Information System (GIS) map-based application developed by DC OCIS. InfoAccess takes a broad-range of location-related information and allows users to view those locations by category on GIS maps and view related information such as census data, parcel data and more. Categories include education, government, health care, recreation, transportation and more, giving users an opportunity to explore what the community has to offer.

“We are delighted to partner with local municipalities like the City of Beacon to offer enhanced services to residents through the Dutchess County Shared Services program.  The newly upgraded mobile-friendly website supports both County Executive Molinaro’s and Mayor Casale’s shared goal of cost effective and user friendly solutions to support our public citizens,” stated Glenn Marchi, Ph.D., Commissioner OCIS.

The City of Beacon’s website is one of several municipal websites created by Dutchess County OCIS through shared service partnerships.   Other websites include the Town of LaGrange,,  and the Arlington Fire District,    Dutchess County is also partnering with the Town of East Fishkill for a new website that is expected to roll out later this year.   These partnerships have provided greater information accessibility for residents and have saved municipalities thousands of dollars for taxpayers.
