Dutchess County to Host Education Sessions to Enhance Municipal Economic Development

Poughkeepsie...The Dutchess County Department of Planning and Development, in partnership with the Pace University Land Use Law Center, will hold two interactive training sessions for those involved in the review of local development applications, as well as those developing and enacting comprehensive plans and local laws.   The sessions are part of the ongoing effort to encourage economic development and greater efficiency and effectiveness in the development process throughout Dutchess County.   Sessions, which are free of charge, will be held Tuesday, November 29th and Wednesday, December 14th from 6:00 pm to 8:00pm at the Farm and Home Center in Millbrook.   Light dinner will be served.

The Land Use System: Setting the Stage
November 29, 2016 from 6-8pm
This session will focus on learning about the land use system and the power given to each municipal board. A hypothetical development project will be discussed to illustrate the responsibilities across all boards. This session then transitions into comprehensive planning, visioning, soliciting community needs and opinion, and how to engage in discussions in order to create a vision for the future.

Integrating Economic Development into Your Land Use Plans and Regulations
December 14, 2016 from 6-8pm
This session takes over where the first left off but will focus on economic development. Trainers will discuss how to integrate market-realistic economic development goals into a community’s comprehensive plan, how to assess and build upon a community’s redevelopment readiness, and ideas on streamlining the development process for implementation.

Session speakers will include Tiffany Zezula, Jessica Bacher, Jennie Nolon Blanchard and John Nolon from the Pace University Land Use Law Center.

All municipal officials and volunteers who are engaged in the planning and development process, including local legislative, planning and zoning board members, are encouraged to attend.  Attendance at both sessions is encouraged, but not required. There is no fee to attend, but registration is required.    Registration is online at www.alumni.pace.edu/Dutchess-Training.    The Farm & Home Center is located at 2715 Route 44, Millbrook NY.    For more information, call the Dutchess County Department of Planning at 486-3600.
