County Executive Announces Funding for Police and Municipalities

 

Poughkeepsie, NY - County Executive William R. Steinhaus announced that the Dutchess County Traffic Safety Board has approved funding to several local municipalities for administration of countywide traffic safety programs. These funds are granted to local police departments and municipalities to assist in addressing the problems- of excessive speeding, not wearing seat belts, and sales of alcoholic beverages to minors.

"This year Dutchess County secured $75,000 in Traffic Safety funds from the Governor's Traffic Safety Committee, an increase of 50% over last year," Steinhaus explained. "The funds we grant our local police departments and municipalities will assist in keeping the residents of Dutchess County safe."

Funding has been approved for the following:

Village of Fishkill Police Dept. $1,200 - Speeding & Seatbelts
Village of Red Hook Police Dept. $1,000 - Speeding & Seatbelts
Wappinger Falls Police Dept. $1,200 - Speeding & Seatbelts
Town of Pleasant Valley $3,000 - Speeding & Seatbelts
East Fishkill Police Dept. $4,900 - Speeding & Seatbelts
Fishkill Police Dept. $4,900 - Speeding & Seatbelts
Beacon Police Dept. $4,000 - Speeding & Seatbelts;
$1,250 -  Underage sales
Hyde Park Police Dept. $4,900  - Speeding & Seatbelts
$1,250  - Underage sales
City of Poughkeepsie PD $4,900  - Speeding & Seatbelts
$2,500
Underage sales
Total $35,000

Other monies are earmarked for compiling statistics to help guide traffic safety policies in the future, public awareness and outreach activities, and grants for structural investments.

The county has organized an aggressive traffic safety campaign," Steinhaus added. "These funds will help ensure success, and I thank the members of the Dutchess County Traffic Safety Board and the Traffic Safety Coordinator, Marc Molinaro, for their dedication to traffic safety in our communities."
