County Executive Salutes Direct Care WorkersPoughkeepsie, NY - County Executive William R. Steinhaus has issued a proclamation declaring June 10th 'Direct Care Worker Day' in the Hudson Valley region. On June 10th the Mid-Hudson Coalition for the Development of Direct Care Practice hold its 8th Annual Conference at the Student Center at Marist College. "Direct Cares Workers are on the front line of the health-care industry and are often responsible for the quality of life that many of our youth, seniors and disabled enjoy," said County Executive Bill Steinhaus. "There is a need to recognize the important service these care givers provide and that is why we have declared June 10th 'Direct Care Worker Day.' While they hold their conference, these direct care workers will know that we salute them."
At the conference direct care workers will attend sessions on the various ways to identify and engage at-risk youth, how to help senior citizens and people with disabilities delay or eliminate the need for out-of-home placement and other helpful and nurturing topics. "Direct Care workers reach all facets of human life, from early childhood through geriatrics," Steinhaus noted. "As new systems and models of care develop, direct care workers often end up being the primary care giver. That's a big challenge and they deserve recognition for accepting that challenge."
"The purpose of the Mid-Hudson Coalition is to increase the quality of care of people with special needs through an educated direct care workforce," stated Regis Obijiski, Mid-Hudson Coalition Chairman. "I appreciate the attention the County Executive has given us."
