County Employees Awarded by March of Dimes

Poughkeepsie, NY - County Executive William R. Steinhaus is pleased to announced that today in the County Executive's conference room, the March of Dimes presented Dutchess County with an award for having the largest team and the number one walker in our four county Mid Hudson Division in the March of Dimes Walk America.

"The employees of Dutchess County never fail to fill me with pride," commented Steinhaus. "This is a great example of what type of people serve in our county government. When it is time to pitch in and lend a hand for a good cause, our county employees always rise to the occasion."

The Dutchess County Workforce: Making a Difference Team exceeded all expectations in the walk-a-thon to raise money to improve the health of babies by preventing birth defects and infant mortality. "Our team effort, with 80 walkers, raised more than $6,500.00," Steinhaus said. "We had 17 departments participating in this year's event, three Department heads walked in the event, and three Department heads and the President of CSEA even provided incentives for their employees to encourage greater participation."

Team Dutchess was the first team in their division to receive a gold level WalkAmerica plaque and the March of Dimes Order of the 'Battered Boot for Outstanding WalkAmerica Support' Award. "The top walker for the event was our very own John Vacca, from the Dutchess County Office of Computer Information Systems," Steinhaus noted.

Maura O'Meara, Community Director of the March of Dimes presented the awards to a conference room packed with County employees.
