Steinhaus Administration Focuses on Improvements of Hyde Park Area

Poughkeepsie, NY - County Executive William R. Steinhaus is pleased to announced the $430,000 rehabilitation and upgrade of North Quaker Lane in Hyde Park. The road work, which includes a new drainage system, rejuvenated blacktop and 3' shoulders, will take place on a four mile stretch of North Quaker Lane between Netherwood Road and Hibernia/Clinton Hollow Road.

"The quality of the roads we drive on and the drainage systems associated with them have a very real impact on our quality of life," County Executive Steinhaus said. "My administration has made every effort to maintain and upgrade our county roads to ensure the safety of our residents and the prosperity of our business community."

The work on the drainage system and the shoulders is being done by the Dutchess County Department of Public Works and is presently underway. The road repaving will begin in early September and will be contracted out by the county to the lowest bidder. The repaving process which will be implemented is referred to as "reclaim and foam." This process rejuvenates the existing pavement by chewing up as much as 6 to 8 inches of the pavement and reprocessing it with an oil treatment.

"The County is recycling the existing pavement with a new process that has only existed for roughly two or three years," Steinhaus noted. "By using this process, and rejuvenating the existing pavement, the County can realize a substantial savings to the local property taxpayers while still providing new road surfaces."

During the repaving phase of North Quaker Lane, traffic will be diverted from two lanes to one during work hours with a flag person directing traffic.

"The renovation of North Quaker Lane comes on the heels of our extensive infrastructure investments in the Hyde Park area," Steinhaus commented. "The county has recently announced the enhancements of the historic Crossroads Center of the Town of Hyde Park at Route 9 and Market Street. We are currently repaving St. Andrews Rd. and just laid pipe to deliver water to the Route 9G/Harbourd Hills area as well as the Staatsburg area. All these projects are aimed at creating a better quality of life for the residents in the Hyde Park/Staatsburg region of the county."
