"We are committed to providing our services more conveniently," Steinhaus said. "Prior to this, residents in eastern Dutchess who had to reapply for Medicaid were required to drive into Poughkeepsie. It is necessary to reapply every six months. Starting this month, this process will be much simpler for them, making access to important health services more convenient."
The Dutchess County Community Action Agency will assist in arranging appointments and transportation to those in need. The Community Action Agency has provided transportation for Medicaid and Foodstamp clients in the past, but has had to drive clients from Eastern Dutchess County to Poughkeepsie. "The fact that we are offering these services in Dover will also benefit organizations like the Community Action Agency which help us serve our residents better," Steinhaus noted.
The move to offer Medicaid recertification in Dover comes after the county began offering similar recertification services for Food Stamp recipients in Dover. "Since we began providing Food Stamp recertification in the eastern region of the county we realized we could justify placing more staff there to offer Medicaid clients the same convenience," stated Steinhaus.
Residents who would like to recertify for Medicaid must bring the following documents with them to the Eastern Duchess Family and Community Center: a completed recertification package, verification of all income within the last 4 weeks, verification of residency, and verification of all resources.
If residents plan to recertify in Dover and not in Poughkeepsie or need assistance with transportation to the appointment, they should call the Community Action Agency at (845) 887-9272. For those individuals who have any questions regarding the necessary documents for medicaid recertification, please contact your medicaid worker at the Department of Social Services at 486-3000.
