County Executive Steinhaus to Launch Major Disaster Preparedness Initiatives
Dutchess County Citizens Can Train to Help Their Neighbors in Disaster

Poughkeepsie, NYCounty Executive William R. Steinhaus will announce accomplishments of the past year and key next steps for 2004 in emergency preparedness for Dutchess County on Tuesday, March 16, 2004 at 11:30 AM at the Dutchess County Emergency Response Center, 392 Creek Road, Lecture Room 104, 1st Floor, Poughkeepsie, NY.

This past fall, the Dutchess County Department of Emergency Response unveiled a comprehensive community disaster plan. Part of that plan included partnership with the Northern Metropolitan Health Care Foundation, local hospitals, and the American Red Cross to build a volunteer Medical Reserve Corps (MRC).

In his January 2004 State of the County Address, County Executive Steinhaus announced the receipt of a grant from the US Surgeon General to continue the county’s collaboration on the MRC. Achievements of the past year will be highlighted at this press conference, as well as announcing several opportunities for community members to receive training in emergency preparedness and volunteering for the Medical Reserve Corps.

We are hopeful that local media outlets will help convey this message in our efforts to educate the public and recruit volunteers.

Media representatives are asked, if possible, to RSVP at 845-486-2000 by close of business Monday, March 15, 2004.
