Steinhaus Announces Crossroads Project in Home Stretch
Final Paving to be Completed

Poughkeepsie, NY – County Executive William R. Steinhaus stated that the project to enhance the historic crossroads center of the Town of Hyde Park is nearing completion with final pacing scheduled in the coming weeks. The work on U.S. Route 9 and West Market St. (CR 41) includes new curbing and sidewalks designed to enhance the pedestrian friendliness and visual appeal of the area, while providing the infrastructure needed to stimulate economic development.

"This important project to revitalize the historical hub of Hyde Park was developed and brought to fruition by a partnership between the Town’s Crossroads Committee, Dutchess County and New York State", continued the County Executive, " This project again shows what can be accomplished when three levels of government and the local residents form partnerships and focus their energies and resources on revitalizing our historic Town Centers."

The major portion of this project has been accomplished through construction contracts coordinated and overseen by the Dutchess County Department of Public Works Engineering Division. This arrangement has allowed the County to move the project forward to the advantage of the local community. Final paving of the County road portion of West Market Street will be completed, by October 31, 2000, weather permitting.

The remainder of the planned enhancements will be added under the supervision of the Town of Hyde Park. These include such enhancements as providing street lamps and trees and routing above- ground utilities underground.
