Poughkeepsie .... Dutchess County Executive William R. Steinhaus today joined Dutchess County Department of Social Services Commissioner Bob Allers and staff to thank and honor the 150 foster parents in Dutchess County.

Steinhaus honored the foster parents at an annual-"Thank- you brunch"- Wednesday morning at the Department of Social Services office on Market Street.

The Executive said, "Our local residents who choose to be foster parents are remarkable people--real jewels of our community--and we are extraordinarily grateful for the role they play to help raise children in need."

The Executive noted, "In my Year 2000 Budget Message in November, I announced we were raising the dailyrates paid to foster parents as well as for diaper cost allowances."

Steinhaus also emphasized, "Over the past four years, Dutchess County government has increased the money spent in children's services by $2 million from $9.2 million to $11.2 million as a demonstration of our commitment to help the children of our county."

"This relatively small investment is returned to the community many times when foster children are provided the care, love, and values from their foster families which will help them grow to enjoy a healthy and productive adult life," concluded Steinhaus.

The annual brunch is held in addition to an annual thank you picnic for foster parents at Bowdoin Park. Anyone interested in becoming a foster parent can contact the Dutchess County Department of Social Services at 486-3000.
