County Executive Signs Agreements for Emergency Fuel Programs

Poughkeepsie. . . County Executive William R. Steinhaus has signed agreements for approximately $293,000 with the Dutchess County Community Action Agency, Inc., which will coordinate emergency fuel program services with the Dutchess County Social Services Department.

Steinhaus noted, “The variety of services provided by the programs under this agreement seek to ensure that no resident of Dutchess County is without fuel and warmth this winter.  With the assistance offered through the Community Action Agency and the Dutchess County Department of Social Services, this basic need will be provided for income-eligible recipients who find themselves in need this winter.”  The programs include:

Emergency Fuel Program to distribute heating fuel on an emergency basis and maintain emergency telephone service after business hours and on weekends and County holidays;

Heating Equipment Crisis Program which makes available a subsidiary, North East Home Improvement, to provide heating equipment repair or replacement to HEAP or public assistance clients;

HEAP Packaging which provides outreach to and identification of clients, develops an awareness of the program in the community, screens the potential households and assesses their need, refers the client to a provider if necessary, and maintains client and program files;

Fuel Buyers’ Club Program, which provides group purchasing power for income eligible residents to make better use of their income and reduces fuel usage by requiring energy conservation measures to be put in place as a member of the Buyers’ Club.

Anyone who feels they may be eligible for HEAP assistance may call the Dutchess County Department of Social Services at 486-3000 or the Community Action Agency at 452-5104.
