County Executive Finalizes Process for Hyde Park Water Improvements

Poughkeepsie. . . Dutchess County Executive, William R. Steinhaus, announced he has forwarded to the Legislature for their consideration a resolution that would transfer ownership of a County-owned 4,800 linear foot water main on St. Andrew’s Road in the Town of Hyde Park to the Dutchess County Water and Wastewater Authority. The WWA will "buy" the water main from the county for $438,509.

The main, which is intended to provide a connection from the WWA’s southern water storage tower to a main along Route 9G, was installed in 1999 when the Department of Public Works was doing a highway reconstruction project on St. Andrew’s Road. Mr. Steinhaus said, "This was a project I announced in my 1999 State of the County Address and represented an investment in Hyde Park’s future. By completing the work when the St. Andrew’s Road Rehabilitation was under construction, we realized considerable savings by not having to re-open the ground to install the line, and eliminated the inconvenience of having to close the road a second time for the pipe’s installation. It will provide a much-needed service to the properties along Route 9G in Hyde Park. We understood in 1999 that the timing was important for these reasons and agreed that the WWA would reimburse the county budget when state funding became available. This resolution is to finalize the mutually-beneficial agreement that was made with WWA at the time of installation."
