County Executive Announces Improvements to LaGrange Intersection

County Executive William R. Steinhaus is pleased to announce safety improvements and reconstruction of the Noxon Road (CR 21)/Old Noxon Road/Robinson Lane Intersection which will include improving safety at the entrance to Noxon Road Elementary School. The Executive said, "We have targeted this $500,000 project to begin this summer, coordinated with the end of the school year. We have attempted to meet the needs of safety and will include reducing the curve and sag in the eastern approach to Noxon intersection and to improve visibility. Also to maximize safety and traffic control, the project will include the installation of a fully activated traffic light and left-turn lanes. The entranceway for Noxon Road Elementary School, which is located adjacent to the involved intersection, will also be realigned and improved," said the Executive.

The County Executive said, "After hearing of the concerns of the parents and school children from Noxon Road Elementary School this winter, I wanted to respond right away. I directed Commissioner Paul L. Cassillo and the Engineering Division of the County’s Department of Public Works (DPW) to make the project a priority and to conduct a thorough review of the intersection and propose improvements. I am pleased to announce that in the accelerated effort our DPW has been able to analyze the situation, design improvements and prepare the project for bidding." The County Executive added, "This project was made a priority for the Engineering Division, as it is a busy intersection used by an average of 10,000 vehicles a day, in close proximity to the entrance of an elementary school. Safety of the children in the dozens of school buses using this intersection is of paramount importance to me. The added stack-up turning lanes will increase the safety of the school buses and parents seeking to turn left off of Noxon Road to drop off or pick up children at the Elementary School as well as all the motorists who use this intersection on a daily basis."

Commissioner Cassillo said, " Public Works is proud of the timeliness of the response to County Executive Steinhaus’ request and the quality of the project designed by the Engineering Division. The project is now being bid, with the goal for the majority of the construction work to be completed during the Elementary School’s summer vacation."
