County Executive Announces Improvements to LaGrange Intersection
County Executive William R. Steinhaus is pleased to announce the completion of safety improvements and reconstruction of the Noxon Road (CR 21)/Old Noxon Road/Robinson Lane Intersection, which included improving the safety of the entrance to Noxon Road Elementary School. The Executive said, “This $500,000 project reduced the curve and sag in the eastern approach to Noxon intersection and improved its visibility. To maximize safety and traffic control, the project installed a fully activated traffic light and left-turn lanes and realigned the adjacent entranceway for Noxon Road Elementary School,” said the Executive.
The County Executive said, “In response to the concerns expressed to my office by the parents and school children from Noxon Road Elementary School, I directed Commissioner Paul L. Cassillo and the Engineering Division of the County’s Department of Public Works (DPW) to expedite this important safety project. Today, I am pleased to celebrate with Noxon Road Elementary School Principal Linda M. Roy and representatives from the school’s PTA and student council the completion of this work, which significantly improves this busy intersection used by an average of 10,000 vehicles a day. The safety of the children in the dozens of school buses using this intersection twice daily is of paramount importance to me. The added stack-up turning lanes will increase the safety of the school buses and parents seeking to turn left off of Noxon Road to drop off or pick up children at the Elementary School, as well as, all the motorists who use this intersection on a daily basis.”
Noxon Road Elementary School Principal Linda Roy said, “The faculty, staff, parents and students at Noxon Road Elementary greatly appreciate the efforts of County Executive Steinhaus and the Dutchess County Department of Public Works in widening and improving he intersection in front of our school and installing a traffic light to help manage the flow of traffic in this area. We will now all be safer as we come and go each day, and for this we would like to express our sincere thanks to all involved,” continued Principal Roy, “This was a major project that was accomplished primarily during the summer, and was carried out very efficiently with our schedule in mind to minimize disruption to the operation of the school. We are very pleased to be asked to participate in the traffic light activation ceremony in order to express our thanks personally.” concluded Roy.
“I would like to take this opportunity to also present to Principal Roy and Noxon Road Elementary a Dutchess County flag for use at their annual flag day ceremony and applaud the patriotic sprit displayed by your school every year on that important holiday,” stated the County Executive.
