National Take Back Initiative

April 28, 2012
10:00 AM - 2:00 PM

Dutchess County Department of Health reminds residents about the opportunity to participate in the Drug Enforcement Administrations (DEA) National Prescription Drug Take Back Day.  County residents will be able to safely dispose of unused or expired medications at specified locations on Saturday, April 28, 2012 from 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM at the following locations:

Town of Poughkeepsie Police Department, 19 Tucker Drive, Poughkeepsie, NY 12603

Red Hook Police Department, 7467 South Broadway, Red Hook, NY 12571

Last year, the US Drug Enforcement Administration's Take Back Day resulted in more than 377,086 pounds (188.5 tons) of unwanted or expired medications being collected for disposal across the United States.  "If drugs aren’t properly disposed of, the potential for misuse, abuse, and accidental ingestions by children and pets can occur," said Commissioner of Health Michael C. Caldwell, MD, MPH.  "Also of concern, is the impact on the environment such as contamination of our water supply.”
