Health Department Seeks Assistance with Identifying Person Possibly Exposed to Rabies

Poughkeepsie… Dutchess County Department of Health is looking for your help in identifying a person who was bitten by a cat on the morning of Wednesday, August 1 at  approximately 9:40am at the Mobil Gasoline Station at 298 Titusville Road in LaGrange.  The gray juvenile tabby cat with stripes was exhibiting symptoms consistent with rabies.  After the cat bit two people, it ran off into the woods nearby.

Of the two individuals who were bitten by the cat, one has received treatment.  The other, a woman in her early 20’s with short brown hair or a ponytail wearing a teal-colored shirt and khaki pants, believed to live locally, has not yet been located.  Immediate treatment for animal bites, especially those suspect for rabies is critical for the individual's health.

If you should know someone who meets this description or anyone who has had contact with this animal, please notified the Dutchess County Department of Health at (845) 486-3404 (m-f, 9-5) or (845) 431-6465 (after-hours) as soon as possible so that appropriate follow-up treatment can occur.
