County to Begin Phone Survey About Local Health Issues

Poughkeepsie…Dutchess County Department of Health has announced it will conduct a countywide survey to identify priority community health and quality of life issues from the County resident’s perspective. This survey will be conducted by phone in the month of December and is a follow-up to the community health survey conducted by the Department in 2008-2009.

“Not only will this phone survey help determine residents’ needs so we can plan future action accordingly, but it will also allow us to understand how their needs are changing over time,” said Commissioner of Health Michael C. Caldwell, MD, MPH. “We appreciate residents taking a few minutes to share their input in this important planning process.”

The county-wide community survey will ask residents to share their experience with the local health and human services system, including all aspects of the local environment such as physical, legal, social, economic, and health issues.

An independent-contracted company (Metrix Matrix, Inc.), who was selected through the County bid process, will be contacting residents by telephone throughout the next few weeks to conduct the interviews. The survey is brief and the results are confidential.

The Dutchess County Integrated County Planning Workgroup (ICP), which consists of health and human services public and private agency representatives, is spearheading the survey. The ICP has been involved in several independent assessments in previous years and is working to ensure that the Dutchess County Health and Human Services planning process is responsive to community strengths and needs, and to include these results in a plan to be implemented successfully.

Generous financial support for the survey has been provided by the Foundation for Community Health, Health Quest, and St. Francis Hospital who have recently joined the ICP to share resources and avoid duplication of effort for completion of the Dutchess County Department of Health’s Community Health Assessment and the hospitals’ Community Services Plan.
