Department will be closed briefly for move

Poughkeepsie… The Dutchess County Department of Health is relocating to its new office space at 85 Civic Center Plaza, Suite 106 in the City of Poughkeepsie, opening to the public on Monday, May 6th. The new office will incorporate the Administration, Public Health Nursing, and Environmental services divisions as well as the Early Intervention and Preschool Special Education Programs. These divisions will be closed, including phone, fax and email communication, from Thursday, May 2nd at 2 pm through Sunday, May 5th for the move. Residents who require immediate assistance should call (845) 431-6465.

The Department of Health main offices are currently located at 387 Main Street, Poughkeepsie, with the Early Intervention and Preschool Special Education Programs currently renting space at 510 Haight Avenue in Poughkeepsie. The new Civic Center Plaza location will bring these areas together in one location, along with the Health Department’s Veterans Services Division, which is already located at 85 Civic Center Plaza.

The Department’s Clinical Services, including immunizations and screenings, will remain at the current 387 Main Street, Poughkeepsie location and will relocate to a new location in the Family Partnership Center at 29 North Hamilton Street in Poughkeepsie later this summer. Clinical Services are available by appointment. To schedule an appointment, contact the Department of Health’s Clinical Services line at (845) 486-3535 or email Clinics@DutchessNY.gov.

“This is an exciting time for the Department,” said Dr. Michael C. Caldwell, Dutchess County Commissioner of Health. “The new office will facilitate a more efficient workflow between our various divisions, while we continue to provide quality services to our residents. I am also pleased that as we consolidate our various divisions, we will also be joining our Division of Veteran Services that is already located at the Poughkeepsie Journal Building.”

The new 29,000 square foot office space at 85 Civic Center Plaza has been designed for the specific needs of the Health Department. The new design will provide greater operational efficiency and improved work flow. This efficient design actually allowed the Department to reduce their overall square footage needs. The move to the new location is projected to save the County more than $500,000 over the next five years.

Construction is underway on a new facility for the Medical Examiner’s Office at 129 Washington Street in Poughkeepsie. The Medical Examiner’s Office will be temporarily located at 85 Civic Center Plaza until the new facility is completed later this summer.

The Department of Health’s Beacon District Office at 223 Main Street in Beacon, the Millbrook District Office at the Eastern Dutchess Government Center at 131 County House Road in Millbrook, and the Weights & Measures Division at 98 Peach Road in Poughkeepsie are not impacted by the move, as they will remain in their current locations and will be open regular operating hours.

All of the Department of Health’s telephone and fax numbers will remain unchanged. For more information about the services and programs offered by the Dutchess County Department of Health, visit www.dutchessny.gov.
