Legislature Chairman Rolison Meets with Fire Commissioners

Addresses Dutchess County Association of Fire Districts
on County Commitment to Emergency Management

Dutchess County Legislature Chairman Robert Rolison (R-Poughkeepsie) met with Fire Commissioners from the Dutchess County Association of Fire Districts tonight.  The forum addressed the challenges and issues facing Fire Commissioners as they continue to provide the financial resources to their fire and EMS services.  Currently, thirty-seven fire districts, five ambulance services, and thirteen police agencies respond to natural and man-made emergencies throughout Dutchess County.

Chairman Rolison said, “We are fortunate for the men and women who dedicate their lives to serving and protecting our communities. However, as we continue to face difficult fiscal circumstances even career and volunteer resources are being strained, causing a greater demand on emergency response.  As a representative of Dutchess County Government, I want to reaffirm our commitment to working together with fire districts and their personnel to ensure the safety of our residents but also the safety of our first responders as well.”

In 2011, 127,602 calls were dispatched through the 911 call center.  In addition to minimum manpower, limited financial resources and increase in call volume, our first responders continue to do the very best they can to ensure the safety and well being of our residents.  Nick Sialmas, 2nd Vice President of the Dutchess County Association of Fire District stated, “The cooperation of governmental agencies, fire, medical and law enforcement personnel is necessary and appropriate to provide effective emergency management.”
