Legislature Encourage Residents to Consider Energy Cost Savings
Program available through New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA)

Poughkeepsie… The Dutchess County Legislature encourages residents to consider energy cost savings available through ‘The Home Performance with ENERGY STAR ® Program’. The program created through the Green Jobs Green New York Act of 2009 offers free or reduced-cost comprehensive home energy assessments, also referred to energy audits, to income-eligible owners of 1- to 4 unit residential buildings.

The program issued through the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) is available to those with a combined household income of less than $175,000 annually.   In addition to completing the NYSERDA application, interested parties are requested to provide summaries of electric, heating usage of buildings, and utility bills listing the annual usage or a 12-24 month summary from oil, propane, or other heating fuel vendors.

Those eligible receive a 100%-free energy audit conducted by a participating Building Performance Institute (BPI) Accredited Home Performance Contractor.  Home assessments are used in determining energy saving opportunities through repairs and upgrades to existing air sealing, insulation, and boiler systems.
