Statement from Chairman Rob Rolison on Proposed Budget
County Executive Budget Proposal Presented to the Legislature

Poughkeepsie… County Executive Marc Molinaro unveiled his tentative $411 million budget today to the Dutchess County Legislature.  The legislature as the policy-making and appropriating body of County Government will review and make any necessary amendments.  The proposed budget reflects a Property Tax Levy held below the Tax Cap at 1.9% and 2014 expenses cut by $1.6 M.  Valerie Sommerville, Budget Director, also provided remarks at the budget presentation.

Chairman Rob Rolison (R-Poughkeepsie) stated, “Like many counties across New York State, Dutchess is faced with the harsh reality of a difficult budget situation.  Unfunded mandates make up 70% of our costs, while demands for services in mental health and public safety continue to rise.  This leaves limited resources for our County to allocate funds for other programs and services.  It is incumbent on the Legislature to now make the tough decisions and prioritize the delivery of essential services to our County residents, while remaining responsible to our taxpayers.  I am committed to working hard with Legislator Jim Miccio, Chairman of the Budget, Finance and Personnel Committee and all legislators as we find cost effective and efficient solutions to meeting the needs of our County.”

A public hearing on the County Executive’s budget will be held on November 7 at 7 PM in the legislative chambers on the sixth floor of the County Office Building, 22 Market Street, Poughkeepsie.   Following the public hearing, the Budget, Finance & Personnel Committee will begin its review process with departmental meetings during the weeks of November 12 and November 19.  On December 3 a second Public Hearing on the Proposed Budget with Legislature Amendments will be held.  A meeting of the full legislature to vote on the budget will be held at 7 PM on December 5.
