Dutchess County Legislators Serve Meals to Those in Need

Poughkeepsie, NY Members of the Dutchess County Legislature were at The Lunch Box last Thursday to prepare and serve a hot meal to those who are in need in our community. The Lunch Box, operated by Dutchess Outreach at 29 North Hamilton Street, is a kitchen that serves on average 200 meals a day to those struggling with food insecurity in the City of Poughkeepsie. They rely heavily on the assistance of volunteers from the community and are open Monday through Friday serving lunch, dinner, and healthy snacks to children during after school hours.

On Thursday, members of the Dutchess County Legislature donated their time and money in order to purchase, prepare and serve dinner to over 100 people. Those in attendance enjoyed a hot meal which included chicken, vegetables, macaroni and cheese, rolls and ice cream for desert. Serving meals at The Lunch Box has become an annual event for members of the Dutchess County Legislature as this is the fourth consecutive year that members have come together for this event.

“This annual event is a great opportunity for us to give back to our community” said County Legislature Chairman Dale Borchert. “I’m proud to work with so many wonderful and selfless people who are willing to volunteer their time for such a great cause. It is important for us to always remember that there are people in our community who are struggling and we must do what we can to help them. We are so fortunate to have organizations such as Dutchess Outreach here in our county that work so tirelessly to make sure families in need have access to a hot and nutritious meal.”
