2010 Natural Resources Inventory (NRI) Conference

Planning and Development
Kealy Salomon, Commissioner

The Cornell Cooperative Extension Dutchess County Environment & Energy Program, Dutchess County Environmental Management Council, Dutchess County Department of Planning & Development, Vassar College Environmental Research Institute, and the Cary Institute of Ecosystem Studies held a conference presenting the Natural Resource Inventory of Dutchess County, NY at Vassar College in Poughkeepsie, NY on Saturday, November 6 from 8:30 AM – 2:00 PM.  These organizations collaborated with local experts and scientists to update each chapter of the Natural Resource Inventory for the county.

At the November 6th conference, the lead scientific authors highlighted information from each chapter of the NRI (see links to presentations and posters below), and described how the document can be used by elected and appointed officials, educators, and the general public to improve their knowledge of the county’s natural resources and inform planning for natural resource conservation.  Dr. Harvey Flad, Professor Emeritus of Vassar College, presented a keynote talk entitled: “The Natural Resources of Dutchess County in the Past, Present, and Future (see link to talk below).”
