Man arrested for driving to DC Social Services while impaired by drugs

The Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office reports the arrest of Soren C. Wilhelmsen, age 27 of East Fishkill, for driving while impaired by drugs at the Dutchess County Department of Social Services at approximately 3 pm on 4/24/14.

The Sheriff’s Office has a Deputy assigned to the Department of Social Services during business hours, and the Deputy was alerted when Mr. Wilhelmsen appeared to be under the influence of drugs when he arrived there for an appointment. Mr. Wilhelmsen was then detained and an investigation was conducted, after which he was taken into custody for driving to his appointment while being impaired by drugs. During the investigation it was also discovered that Mr. Wilhelmsen not only allegedly drove while impaired, but did so with his 2 ½ year old son in the car (a violation of Leandra’s Law). It is believed that he was under the influence of prescription medications at the time of his arrest. At this time, Mr. Wilhelmsen has been charged with the following:

- Driving while ability impaired by drugs (Misdemeanor)
- Aggravated driving while intoxicated (Class E Felony—Leandra’s Law)

After being processed, Mr. Wilhelmsen was released on appearance tickets and turned over to Dutchess County Probation, because he is currently on electronic monitoring for a previous case. In addition, CPS was contacted and is involved in the investigation. Mr. Wilhelmsen is due to reappear before the City of Poughkeepsie Court on 5/21/14 at 9 am.

As with any criminal case, the charges described above are merely accusations and Mr. Wilhelmsen is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
