Sheriff’s Office investigates accidental death in Union Vale

The Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office reports the investigation into the accidental death of a woman in the Town of Union Vale at approximately 5:00 pm on 5/14/14.

Sheriff’s Deputies responded to 836 Camby Rd in Union Vale on the above date & time for a report of a partial building collapse with one victim. Investigation revealed that Virginia Neville, age 73, was helping her husband move items out of the house and into a dumpster when a large roof overhang separated from the house and fell on top of her. Mrs. Neville was pronounced dead at the scene. The residence is owned by a different person who was not present at the time of the incident.

No criminal charges have been filed in this case and none are expected to be filed; the incident has been labeled as accidental, and the investigation is closed. The Sheriff’s Office was assisted in the investigation by the Union Vale Fire Department, the Dutchess County Medical Examiner’s Office, and the Town of Union Vale Building Inspector.
