Man arrested after crash with corrections vehicle

The Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office reports the arrest of Victor Odili, age 35 of Poughkeepsie, for driving while impaired by alcohol in connection with an accident involving a Sheriff’s Office Corrections transport vehicle.

On 5/22/14 at approximately 8:15 am, the Sheriff’s Office responded to the westbound arterial near Jefferson St. in the City of Poughkeepsie for a report of an auto accident involving a Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office Corrections transport vehicle. Investigation revealed that the corrections vehicle was stopped in the turn lane of the westbound arterial waiting to make a left onto Jefferson St., when it was struck from behind by Mr. Odili’s vehicle.

At the time of the crash, the transport vehicle had 2 Corrections Officers and 1 inmate in it, and the inmate was being transported to Vassar Hospital for an unrelated medical issue. No one was injured in the crash, and Mr. Odili was taken into custody at the scene after interview and investigation showed him to allegedly be in an impaired condition.

Mr. Odili has been charged with driving while ability impaired (Violation) and following too closely (Traffic infraction), and was released on appearance tickets after being processed. Mr. Odili is to reappear before the City of Poughkeepsie Court on 6/9/14 at 8 am.

As with any case, the charges described are merely accusations, and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
