ABC Compliance Detail Results in 8 Arrests

The Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office conducted an ABC Detail consisting of compliance checks at various alcoholic beverage retail outlets within the county on Tuesday August 12, 2014. With the pending Labor Day Crackdown period on Impaired Driving and approaching return of numerous college students to the county these checks are an important element in the continuing effort to help combat underage drinking as well as impaired driving.

Sheriff Anderson has members conduct these details at various times throughout the year which involve sending an underage decoy into the establishment in an attempt to purchase alcoholic beverages. If an alcoholic beverage is sold to the decoy the person who sold or gave it away is usually charged with both Penal Law & ABC Law violations. Additionally a police referral is sent to the NYS Division of Alcoholic Beverage Control who controls the licenses to sell alcohol and who has the authority to subsequently impose a penalty or revoke the license.
