Wappinger man arrested after failure-to-comply

The Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office reports the arrest of Andrew F. Bruno, age 46 of Wappinger, for numerous offenses after he failed to comply and led police on a pursuit into Orange County on Saturday night (9/13/14).

On 9/13/14 at approximately 7:20 pm, Deputies responded to the Chelsea Ridge Apartments on Route 9D in Wappinger for a report of a suspicious vehicle and argument between the caller and the driver. Upon arrival the vehicle was observed leaving the complex, at which time Deputies attempted to stop it. The operator then failed to comply and led Deputies and State Troopers, who had responded to assist, on a pursuit onto Interstate 84 westbound into Orange County.

The operator failed to comply until the area of exit 4, at which point the vehicle was stopped and the driver was taken into custody and the passenger was detained. The occupants of the vehicle were identified as Mr. Bruno (driver) and his mother Barbara Bruno (age 76). Mrs. Bruno was released without being charged, and Mr. Bruno has been charged with numerous offenses. During the original call it was reported that Mr. Bruno may have been in possession of a gun, however no gun was ever located or recovered.

At this time, Mr. Bruno has been charged with the following:

  • Aggravated unlicensed operation 1st degree - Class E Felony

  • Unlawfully fleeing a police officer 3rd degree - Class A Misdemeanor

  • DWI - Misdemeanor

  • DWAI (drugs) - Misdemeanor

  • Reckless driving - Misdemeanor

After being processed Mr. Bruno was released to the custody of staff at Mid-Hudson Regional Hosptial, due to concerns over suicidal statements that he made during processing. Mr. Bruno is due to appear before the Town of Fishkill Court on 10/8/14 to be arraigned on the charges.

As with any criminal case, the charges described are merely accusations and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. The Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the State Police, more charges are possible and further information may be released as it becomes available.
