Traffic delays expected for fallen NYPD officer’s services

The Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office would like to advise people traveling through Hopewell Junction and LaGrange on Wednesday 9/24/14 and Thursday 9/25/14 that there could be significant traffic delays in those areas due to the services for NYPD Officer Michael Williams.

Officer Williams was killed in the line of duty this past Sunday morning (9/21/14) in New York City. The funeral arrangements for Officer Williams are in Dutchess County and a large amount of people are expected to attend both the wake and funeral. The details on possible traffic issues and roads to avoid are as follows:

  1. Wednesday 9/24/14 from 12 pm to 11 pm: Avoid State Route 82 in Hopewell Junction if you can; significant traffic congestion is expected in the entire area.

  2. Thursday 9/25/14 from 9 am to 2 pm: Avoid State Route 82 in LaGrange between East Noxon Rd and the Taconic State Parkway if you can. Heavy congestion and delays are expected on Route 82 and are also possible to a lesser degree on the TSP.

Also be aware that portions of Route 82 in this area may be closed for a period of time if the funeral traffic rises to a certain level. At this time, this is only a possibility depending on how traffic issues unfold that day, and every effort will be made to keep the road open. If it becomes necessary to close any part of the road there will be law enforcement officers on the scene to direct motorists safely to a detour.

Members of the Sheriff’s Office, New York State Police, East Fishkill Police, and Dutchess County Department of Emergency Response are working diligently to ensure that traffic congestion and delays are kept to a minimum in the affected areas.

Any changes or further traffic advisories will be released as they become necessary.
